Insurance Provider Directs Strategic Funding to Support Rural Health System
(ATLANTA – May 4, 2020) The CareSource Foundation today awarded a $25,000 grant to the Phoebe Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund. The grant will help meet immediate needs in the Albany, Ga. region as they have the state’s highest concentration of COVID-19 patients per capita. The Phoebe Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund provides essential support to employees and emergency responders in efforts to keep the community safe and healthy.
“Since 2006, the CareSource Foundation has awarded grants to nonprofits and community-based organizations that are addressing critical health issues and enhancing the lives of those they serve,” said Dan McCabe, chief administrative officer, CareSource. “The Phoebe Foundation is allocating funds to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to ensure the continuation of exceptional care in this time of need and we are proud of the impact they are making in the Albany community.”
The CareSource Foundation provides responsive grants to nonprofit organizations who impact children, adults and families in areas that mirror the social determinants of health.
“As we continue to confront challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, we are overwhelmed by the support from local, state and national communities. Our healthcare workers have been on the front lines working tirelessly to ensure patients are safe and cared for throughout southwest Georgia” said Carolyn Higgins, president and chief fundraising officer, Phoebe Foundation. “CareSource’s generosity is one of the reasons why we can continue to provide relief efforts to our neighbors in need.”
As COVID-19 impacts more lives in Georgia, CareSource is working to support providers, hospitals and community organizations during this global pandemic.
“Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Bobby Jones, president, CareSource Georgia Market. “This starts with the support to our partner providers who are on the front lines caring for CareSource members and Albany residents. In the past few days, Phoebe expanded their capabilities to treat COVID-19 patients to include a new intensive care unit and two general units. Their work in the market was an obvious match for the work we do with the CareSource Foundation and in Georgia.”
