Ser Familia announces behavioral health partnership with CareSource

First-of-its-kind partnership launches during Hispanic Heritage Month.

ATLANTA (October 11, 2023) – In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and for the first time in Georgia, Ser Familia recently announced their unprecedented partnership with CareSource, a mission-driven Medicaid plan serving more than 450,000 Georgians to increase outreach efforts to the state’s Hispanic community.

“CareSource is passionate about the people we serve. To make a difference in an individual’s life it is important to focus on the whole family unit, as well as the community,” said Jason Bearden, CareSource Georgia president. “Ser Familia is very community minded, focused and coordinated in what they do. This is where our missions align.”

The partnership between CareSource and Ser Familia marks the first time a managed health care organization in Georgia has extended mental health services to its members by collaborating with a non-profit organization that specializes in preventive family services with cultural and language proficiency. 

“The reality is that we have more than one million Latinos living in Georgia, and Latinos are incredibly important,” said General John King, Georgia insurance and fire safety commissioner. “We know that the Latino community has been one of the most underserved in our state because of resources, language and culture and we are trying to address that.”

With a focus on entire families, this initiative will help diagnose and assess behavioral risks – including post-partum depression – and create case plans with a rich array of resources for CareSource members in Georgia in their language of preference and with empathy for their cultural background. Thanks to a $30,000 commitment from CareSource, Ser Familia will also be able to expand the services it provides.
