HAP CareSource and Crim Fitness Foundation celebrate successful 47th HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races

FLINT, Mich. (HAP CARESOURCE) — HAP CareSource, a mission-driven joint venture between HAP, a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan and CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit managed care organization, alongside the Crim Fitness Foundation, a highly regarded non-profit organization impacting the lives of thousands, successfully celebrated the 47th annual HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races, this past weekend. The highly anticipated event kicked off on Thursday, Aug. 22, and concluded Saturday, Aug. 24, showcasing the best of Flint and Genesee County, while promoting the importance of health and wellness for all.

The 2024 HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races festivities commenced with the Health & Fitness Expo on Thursday, Aug. 22, providing individuals and families with an excellent opportunity to learn more about health and wellness activities, and the variety of Medicaid programs and coverage available through HAP CareSource. More than 20 thousand athletes and visitors participated in this year’s events, including over 10 thousand event registrations.

As a long-time partner of the Crim Fitness Foundation, HAP CareSource has remained the title sponsor of the HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races since 2018, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of the communities they serve. This partnership was further solidified in 2023 when HAP CareSource announced their title sponsorship for the Crim Festival of Races through 2027, extending their support into the event's 50th iteration.

"The streets of downtown Flint came alive during this special week, and we are thrilled to be a part of it for another year," said Dr. Michael Genord, president and CEO at HAP. "Our partnership with the Crim Fitness Foundation reflects our shared commitment to the well-being of the communities we serve."

The Crim Festival of Races, founded in 1977 by Michigan House Speaker Bobby Crim and his assistant Lois Craig, has become a beloved Flint tradition. The event serves as a homecoming for the city, attracting community members, businesses, organizations and world-class runners. With courses that wind through Flint's picturesque neighborhoods and challenging hills, the Crim offers a unique and exhilarating experience for participants.

This year's festival featured a variety of races, including the signature 10 Mile, Half Crim 5 Mile, 5K, One Mile and Teddy Bear Trot. To encourage record-breaking performances, HAP CareSource and the Crim Fitness Foundation offered a generous $2,500 prize to any runner who set a new course record in the men's or women's divisions. However, no participant beat the 45:23 course record.

"The Crim Festival of Races holds a special place in our hearts," said Lauren Holaly-Zembo, CEO at Crim Fitness Foundation. "It is a testament to our dedication to Flint and its surrounding communities. We are honored to partner with HAP CareSource to support this event and contribute to the creation of strong and resilient communities."

HAP CareSource is dedicated to delivering quality Medicaid services in the areas it serves, including HAP CareSource Medicaid, MIChild, Healthy Michigan Plan, Children’s Special Health Care Services, and even special coverage programs for people impacted by the Flint water crisis. HAP CareSource continues to deepen its connections with the city of Flint beyond their member base, HAP CareSource supports outreach programs and community events that promote health and wellness, such as the Crim Races.

As the 47th Annual Crim Festival of Races comes to a close, HAP CareSource and the Crim Fitness Foundation celebrate another successful year of promoting health, fostering community engagement and inspiring individuals to lead active lifestyles.
