Gift supports Food Bank of Eastern Michigan food insecurity efforts in 22 Michigan counties

FLINT, MI (HAP CARESOURCE) – The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, a nonprofit serving hunger-relief organizations throughout 22 eastern Michigan counties, announces a new partnership with HAP CareSource, a joint venture announced last year between HAP, a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan and CareSource, a nationally recognized managed care organization.

HAP CareSource provided a $75,000 investment to support the nonprofit’s general operations, mobile distributions in Michigan’s thumb region for up to 400 families, Empty Bowl event sponsorships and sponsorship for the 2024 Hunger Action Month campaign. All of these allocations of funds help the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to meet basic food needs and minimize food insecurity in local communities.

“The investments we will make with the HAP CareSource partnership are instrumental to helping the food bank’s staff and volunteers to serve those in need across our service area,” Kara Ross, president & CEO of the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. “We are confident that together we’ll make significant progress toward removing barriers for our community to access fresh and nutritious food.”

“HAP CareSource is grateful for our partnership with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan,” said Sarah Musser, market president – Michigan at HAP CareSource. “Increasing access to mobile services for the people of eastern Michigan and sponsoring events that get food directly into the hands of the community is critical. The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s creativity and drive to reach the community where they are, at the time they most need it, is truly amazing.”

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan serves as a common solicitor, storehouse and distributor of food on behalf of its partner agencies which are non-profit, charitable organizations serving those in need.
