CareSource teams up with BeMe to provide free digital mental health support for Georgia teens
September 26th, 2024 | 3 min read
ATLANTA (CARESOURCE) - CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan serving more than 440,000 Georgians, and BeMe, a digital behavioral health company, today announced a new collaboration to provide teens enrolled with CareSource free access to digital mental health support. The tool is designed to be a private, convenient experience to address their individual needs.
CareSource provides health care to nearly 100,000 teens through Georgia Families, Georgia’s Medicaid program. The CareSource and BeMe collaboration will provide them with mobile access to mental health support including health content, self-guided activities and assessments and real-time, one-on-one coaching, as well as clinical services and crisis support as needed.
"Today's teens are often navigating mental health crises during a critical time in their development,” said Adam Klein, director, behavioral health, CareSource Georgia. “With one in eight teens in Georgia suffering from depression and suicide being the second leading cause of death, it is essential that they have access to solutions that genuinely address their needs. We are proud to bring this unique tool that combines the best aspects of digital content, live support and access to clinical care to young people across Georgia.”
Teen mental health in Georgia is facing significant challenges, reflecting a broader national crisis. In a 2019 Georgia Student Health Survey, 40,000 students reported attempting suicide. The state has also seen an increase in emergency room visits for mental health crises among youth, particularly for anxiety and depression.
Through access to the BeMe platform, teens will have a fun, safe, familiar mobile modality that combines science-backed digital tools and resources, and a live human connection with a personal coach for maximum support and impact.
“It’s clear we need to approach mental health in a more innovative way to reach this generation of teens in Georgia and across the country,” said Nicoletta Tessler, CEO and co-founder of BeMe. “BeMe’s mobile mental health solution meets teens where they are – on their phones – and combines technology with human touch to improve well-being. We are thrilled to partner with CareSource to make mental health more accessible for Georgia teens.”
BeMe is designed in collaboration with teens as the platform is uniquely informed by an active Teen Advisory Board. This board is critical in shaping the experience and ensuring holistic relevancy for users.
