Insurance Provider Gifts $50,000 to Sustain Specialized Programs for Women and Children

(DAYTON, Ohio – June 24, 2020) – CareSource, a leading multi-state managed care plan, announced Wednesday a donation of $50,000 to the YWCA Dayton to support programming for women and children who reside in the domestic violence shelter amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made by Dan McCabe, Chief Administrative Officer at CareSource.

“We are humbled by this gift; there are very few companies that partner with nonprofits like CareSource, and for that, we are incredibly thankful,” said Shannon Isom, YWCA Dayton president and CEO.

The funds will go towards supporting summer programming as children in shelter start their summer without traditional supports, such as day camps or child care, face summer slide compounded by spring school closures, and navigate isolation while recovering from the trauma of abuse.

“This kind of gift is uncommon and unparalleled,” said Marshall Weil, director of development at the YWCA Dayton. “We’re grateful for all gifts, but it is rare that a funder sees the fullness of our mission, and chooses to support it without restriction. CareSource is setting the standard for what that looks like, and this generosity ensures that the safety needs of women and families in our community are treated holistically.”

The Dayton-based health plan has pivoted their charitable resources to support both front line health care providers and to meet the variable community needs around social determinants of health.

“The YWCA Dayton is a founding pillar of support for the social safety net serving our vulnerable neighbors,” said McCabe. “We consider it a privilege to continuously partner to strengthen the social safety net and improve health outcomes in our community.”
