Baby’s Bounty will utilize funds from CareSource to support families with young children
HENDERSON, Nev. (CARESOURCE) – CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit managed care organization, is providing $75,000 to Clark County-based nonprofit Baby’s Bounty as part of a new $180,000 partnership between CareSource and the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN). This new funding will provide increased access to health care essentials like diapers for children and families throughout Nevada and allow Baby’s Bounty to serve even more at-risk families.
“Diapers are a basic medical need for children, yet millions go without them due to economic constraints,” said Kelly Maxwell, chief executive officer and executive director of Baby’s Bounty, an NDBN-member basic needs bank. “Support from CareSource, whose commitment to whole-person health aligns so well with our mission, will make a meaningful difference for Nevada families.”
“No family should have to make the choice between paying for diapers or paying for other crucial household needs,” said Jayme Puu, chief executive officer of CareSource Nevada. “We’re proud to support nonprofits that directly impact the health and well-being of children while reducing the stress families experience when securing essential resources for their little ones.”
Nevada voters recently overwhelmingly approved exempting diapers from sales taxes, another important step toward limiting the financial burden of diapers on Nevada families. Nevada is the 20th state to eliminate taxes on diapers.
Founded in 2008, Baby’s Bounty operates recurring diaper distributions in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Reno/Sparks as well as rural Clark County through the diaper bank’s mobile distribution vehicle. In 2023, Baby's Bounty launched Diapers for Diplomas, an initiative in partnership with six of Nevada's higher education institutions, in order to make college more accessible for parenting students.
The new partnership with NDBN is part of CareSource's organization-wide mission to address the social determinants of health, including housing, access to food and nutrition, and workforce development, which are critical to the well-being and success of its members and the broader community. By focusing on these essential needs, CareSource aims to create long-lasting impacts that serve populations with critical social needs, helping them overcome barriers to success and achieve better health and educational outcomes.
