DAYTON, Ohio (CARESOURCE) – CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan, announced today it has donated $100,000 to the Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program (UMADAOP) Inc., of Dayton. The donation will allow UMADAOP to partner with Compris, Inc., a digital health intervention for behavioral health and substance use. The gift will further support efforts that help combat the growing epidemic of social isolation and loneliness often linked to substance use for adults aged 55+ and other behavioral health challenges.

“We are blessed to have organizations like CareSource that recognize the importance of investing in the lives of older adults struggling with social isolation, substance use and other significant risk factors impacting the quality of their lives,” said Dr. Marketa Robinson, Executive Director at UMADAOP of Dayton. “This project will be transformational towards helping improve the quality of life for older adults in Dayton.”

“We believe the number one predictor of good health is meaningful relationships,” said Stephanie Stitt, CareSource director of behavioral health provider relations and initiatives. “CareSource builds strategies to improve the health and wellness of families and communities by encouraging and generating greater social connectedness. Supporting UMADAOP programming that engages older adults through activities like an upcoming Senior Prom is just one example of how we build networks of support around our members.”

UMADAOP of Dayton currently provides programming to older adults in six locations (Trotwood Goodwill Easter Seals, Wesley Center, Covenant House, Omega, Enon Place, Abundant Life) and plans to expand to other locations, including Trotwood Senior Housing, Greater Dayton Premier Housing for Seniors and Grand Place.

The UMADAOP of Dayton strives to ensure that prevention, early intervention, treatment, re-entry and outreach services are available and accessible to all Montgomery County residents, with a primary focus on the African American, Hispanic/Latino and underserved populations. UMADAOP of Dayton provides behavioral health services to older adults to combat social isolation and assess substance use and other risk factors that may impact quality of life. Behavioral health services will include an assessment of loneliness/social isolation, anxiety, depression, and substance use.

“We are excited for this opportunity to be at the forefront of data informed prevention and illness management for people struggling with addictions,” said Calvin McGinn, PhD., Compris co-founder. “Compris raises self-awareness and self-advocacy and provides people with the tools and motivation to pursue changes that create greater wellness in their lives.”
