CareSource Again Named a Top Employer for People with a Disability
October 14th, 2024 | 3 min read
DAYTON, Ohio (CARESOURCE) - For the second year in a row, CareSource has been named a top employer for people with a disability according to the Disability Equality Index® (DEI) organizations to measure disability workplace inclusion.
“CareSource prides itself on being a place where all our employees are encouraged to be their true selves at work,” said Jennifer Dougherty, Chief Human Resources Officer at CareSource. “Building an inclusive workplace for those with disabilities has long been – and will continue to be – a priority for us and we are excited to be recognized as a best place to work for disability inclusion as a result of our work so far.”
Disability Inclusion is an integral part of the CareSource Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy. In 2022, CareSource initiated a partnership with The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement to identify actions and strategies to build and foster a more inclusive workplace for employees with disabilities. Earlier this year, CareSource established a National Disability Inclusion Advisory Board (NDIAB). The advisory board provides on-going support for our disability inclusion workstreams, provides honest feedback on CareSource policies and practices, shares best practices and disability inclusion trends and helps CareSource be a best-in-class organization in disability inclusion.
CareSource also recently created two new employee resource groups: Alliance for Disability Empowerment, which is dedicated to supporting employees with disabilities and connecting internal allies, and Mental Health Advocates, for employees who have an interest in promoting positive mental health in their workplace, personal lives, families and communities.
"On the 10th anniversary of the Disability Equality Index, we’re extremely proud of the 542 national and international companies that are taking a proactive role in leading progress towards disability inclusion, setting a benchmark for others to follow,” said Jill Houghton, President and CEO of Disability:IN. “Their dedication to fostering inclusive workplaces not only attracts top talent but also drives innovation and creates sustainable performance in today's global market. Together, we are creating a future where everyone can contribute and thrive.”
The Disability Equality Index® was originally created through support from the Disability Equality Index Advisory Committee, a diverse group of business leaders, policy experts and disability advocates. Now in its 10th year, the Disability Equality Index exists to help businesses make a positive impact on the fort unemployment/underemployment of people with disabilities, while also helping companies create long term value for employees and shareholders and mitigate risk from new legislative requirements.
