A record 398 families were served at the Preble County Walk-Up Food Distribution held at the Preble County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, September 26 in Eaton, Ohio.
Lines to get into the Fairgrounds remained steady through the course of the morning as residents picked up boxes of fresh vegetables, chicken, onions, cabbage, apples, sweet potatoes, almonds and potatoes.
Since this event is considered a “walk-up” distribution, CareSource volunteers working that day were honored to have many wonderful interactions with numerous families participating in the event helping create a strong sense of community throughout the fairgrounds.
Premier Health was onsite offering free health and wellness checks and several Preble County neighbors set up grills to cook hot dogs and serve drinks for all of those taking part in the event.
“Currently, over 4,300 residents of Preble County report food insecurity. With CareSource’s support, 398 households were served at the annual Preble County Mass Food Distribution last month,” said Michelle L. Riley, The Foodbank, Inc. CEO. “The continued commitment from the CareSource team to ensure that no one goes hungry, makes all the difference. Our Foodbank team is honored to work alongside our partners at CareSource to eliminate hunger and its root causes.”
There are three remaining food distributions this year with the next one taking place on Thursday, October 19 at the Nutter Center located on the campus of Wright State University in Fairborn. Volunteers are in demand for the Thursday, November 9 food distribution in Trotwood at the former site of the Salem Mall.
The final food distribution of the year will occur on Tuesday, November 21 at Dixie Twin Drive-In Theater located at 6201 N. Dixie Drive in Dayton from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
