Thursday, October 19 was the date of another successful food distribution put on by The Foodbank and CareSource this year. This time, volunteers from CareSource, Wright State University and Premier Health were on hand to help distribute food to over 600 households in the Greene County community. The event took place at the Nutter Center on the campus of Wright State University in Fairborn and included over 100 volunteers from the four organizations.
“The annual Greene County Mass Food Distribution, in partnership with CareSource, Premier Health, and Wright State University is an important part of our Foodbank work to eliminate hunger and its root causes,” said Michelle L. Riley, Foodbank CEO. “Thanks to the support of numerous CareSource volunteers, and Wright State leadership volunteers, over 600 total households were served—ranging from families to older adults, to college students. Our team knows that food insecurity impacts all ages, and we are thankful for CareSource’s commitment to this work.”
Participants were able to pick up pantry safe and fresh food including chicken, onions, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, lentils, oranges, cabbage and much more at the event. After picking up the food, participants had the opportunity to visit the Premier Health Mobile clinic for a flu shot or register for a health screening.
This distribution was the sixth of eight this year that CareSource and The Foodbank will host. The next distribution will be on November 9 at the old Salem Mall parking lot from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The final food distribution of the year will take place on November 21 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Dixie Twin-Drive In Theater on North Dixie Drive in Dayton.
