The lines of cars arrived early for Tuesday morning’s Food Distribution and extended well into the afternoon in the parking lot of Welcome Stadium, for the 2023 Montgomery County Mass Food Distribution. The event was the single largest mass food distribution in the history of the partnership between The Foodbank and CareSource.
“Giving back to our communities is at the heart of the CareSource mission and our employees share in that effort by contributing their time and talent by helping distribute food at these events,” said CareSource Vice President of Ohio Market Operations, Dee Yocum. “Our employees realize that volunteering is an important component in solving local communities’ toughest issues.”
By the time the distribution was complete, the numbers were staggering. A total of 2,035 families, including 5,094 individuals, were served chicken, eggs, plums, tomatoes, watermelon, cabbage and more. Overall, more than 185,000 pounds of fresh food was distributed by 125 CareSource volunteers.
“These distributions reflect our unwavering commitment to serving the community and providing nourishment, hope and dignity to those facing difficult times,” said Michelle L. Riley, CEO of The Foodbank.
The next Mass Food Distribution will take place on Tuesday, September 26 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Preble County Fairgrounds, 722 S. Franklin Street in Eaton.
“The lines to get into the parking lot are a staggering reminder of the challenges our community continues to face,” said Lee Alder, Chief Development Officer at The Foodbank. “It is our honor to work alongside our community partners at CareSource to serve our community.”
