CareSource hosts inaugural corporate fun run, 5k and wellness fair

In recognition of the organization’s commitment to employee health and wellness, the CareSource Living Well team hosted a Corporate Fun Run, 5K and Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 29.
Close to 1,100 combined runners in Dayton and virtual runners across the country took part in the race that began in Dayton on Monument Street at Main, covered parts of downtown Dayton and then along the Great Miami Valley River Trail. A Wellness Fair and brunch took place at the Pamela Morris Center following the race.
The idea of the event came from CareSource Chief Human Resources Officer Jennifer Dougherty and Chief Financial Officer Larry Smart who asked the Living Well team leaders to plan a fitness-focused event to bring together CareSource employees and their families in Downtown Dayton.
With employees located across the country, the Living Well team realized the need for a virtual component to include as many employees as possible. CareSource remote participants joined Chief Medical Officer, Dr. David Williams, on the virtual run and shared pictures of their runs from all over the country.
“We are building on the momentum we have built as a company in keeping engaged with our employees,” said Brian Apwisch, Manager, Employee Health & Wellness at CareSource. “In 2022, we focused heavily on encouraging and supporting employee mental health. In 2023, CareSource President and Chief Executive Officer Erhardt Preitauer, sponsored a seven-week health challenge to kick off the new year. Offering both a one-mile Fun Run, a 5K run, with walking, jogging, or running being an option for all participants, is just another way CareSource shows the commitment to our employees’ health and well-being and downtown Dayton.”
Does Apwisch see another similar event taking place next year?
“Absolutely. Soon we will begin preparation and planning for 2024, which we expect to grow in both scope and offerings. I can’t wait to get started!”
