DAYTON, Ohio (CARESOURCE) - The second annual CareSource 5K and Fun Run took place on Saturday, May 4 along the Great Miami Valley River Trail in celebration of CareSource’s support for the region’s health and wellness. A brunch and Wellness Fair followed for race participants at CareSource’s Pamela Morris Center and featured local community health services and vendors.

CareSource partnered with the City of Dayton, Five Rivers Metroparks, and the Dayton Police Department to provide the wellness event for employees and their families.

“The race has become one of our favorite events at CareSource because it not only brings attention to our area’s great trail system but also promotes activities that drive greater health and wellness for people of all fitness levels,” said Brian Apwisch, senior manager, Living Well, CareSource. “Saturday marked the second consecutive year that we ran in excellent running conditions which helped make for a great event. It was also terrific to have several local organizations including Up and Running, Choice Juice Boxx and non-profits 4Paws4Ability and the American Red Cross attend.”

More than 1,400 CareSource employees and their families ran, walked or strolled and rolled in the event, and 550 employees participated virtually. CareSource Chief Financial Officer (and a competitive transcontinental marathon runner) Larry Smart served as the Executive Sponsor of the race. Larry and Ohio state Representative Phil Plummer (R-Dayton) provided remarks to kick off the event.

“CareSource is committed to providing several opportunities each year to our employees to practice self-care, including our CEO’s Wellness Challenge, focused efforts on mental health, and the upcoming wellness event in honor of fallen military members and fallen first responders just before Memorial Day,” added Apwisch.
