CareSource Foundation recognizes the work of the Kansas Children’s Service League

The CareSource Foundation has donated $25,000 to the Kansas Children's Service League to support their Healthy Families program. The program helps vulnerable families get through crises and build resiliency.

“At Kansas Children's Service League (KCSL), we know children are less likely to be at risk for child maltreatment and more likely to grow up happy and healthy when families are supported,” said KCSL Assistant Director Jessica Wadel. “Acting as a support system, KCSL’s Healthy Families program serves as a lifeline to guide families through crises and nurture resilience. We are grateful for CareSource’s essential financial support to help us strengthen healthy parent-child interactions and deliver vital services when families need it most.”

KCSL’s Healthy Families Kansas™ program provides free, intensive, home-based services and parenting support to qualifying pregnant mothers and parents of children ages 0-3 with certain risk factors. These risk factors include lack of parenting skills, illness, unemployment, a history of family abuse and neglect and more. Home visitation specialists provide coaching for positive parent-child interaction, education on infant and child development and developmental screenings, community resource information and other support services. The program serves families in 44 counties statewide.

“CareSource knows the importance of partnering with local organizations who are already doing great work for Kansans,” said CareSource Director of Child and Family Health Kellie Hans Reid. “Kansas Children’s Service League provides solutions and services to children and families that are experiencing multiple barriers to resources and serve to create meaningful change.”

Through the CareSource Foundation Grant Challenge, the organization inspired innovation to reduce health disparities and move the needle on health equity, especially for those with special care needs, both health and social. 

CareSource Kansas was formed to offer programs and products in the state of Kansas and opened an office in Topeka in 2021. Recently, CareSource announced the formation of the CareSource HealthAlliance with a vision of bringing a unique member-centric model to Medicaid members enrolled in KanCare.

Kansas Children’s Service League works to create and restore healthy parent-child relationships.
