CareSource & The Dayton Foodbank Wrap Up Another Successful Year of Mass Food Distributions
DAYTON, Ohio (CARESOURCE) - More than 400 CareSource employees volunteered their time and talents this past year by taking part in one of the eight food distributions in partnership with The Foodbank.
The Foodbank has seen increased utilization of its hunger-relief programs in 2023, with a surprising number of families using their charitable food network for the very first time. This trend includes the mass food distributions with CareSource. Sadly, hunger continues to rise in the Miami Valley.
“On behalf of the entire Ohio Market leadership team, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the CareSource team members who took time to volunteer at one of the many food distributions in 2023,” said Jesse Reed, Director of Life Services at CareSource. “Once again, CareSource volunteers helped make a significant impact in helping to fight food insecurity in the Miami Valley. With our collective efforts this year and leveraging our deep relationship with The Foodbank, CareSource was able to help provide 483,207 meals to over 7,200 families, the equivalent of 290 tons of food.”
Of the households served at the eight mass food distributions, resources were provided for close to 3,500 people accessing The Foodbank’s Hunger Relief Network for the first time. The network includes The Foodbank’s services as well as those of their 116 partner agencies that also distribute food throughout Montgomery, Greene, and Preble Counties.
“With the growing need causing higher demand for our services, we are exceptionally grateful to CareSource and all the incredible volunteers who came out to our distributions to help us pass out food,” said Michelle Riley, CEO of The Foodbank, Inc. “Well over 7,000 households received groceries from these mass distributions. Our partnership with CareSource has a tremendous impact on our community.”
This past year’s food distributions showed a 17% increase from 2022 when 6,185 households were served through mass food distribution efforts between The Foodbank and CareSource.
“This is truly “Health Care with Heart,” and “Partnership with Purpose,” added Reed. “I am thrilled to share that we will continue our partnership with The Foodbank in 2024, with additional volunteer opportunities at events across the Dayton region. I can’t wait to get started.”
