Clinical Practice Guidelines

HAP CareSource™ approves and adopts evidence-based, nationally accepted standards and guidelines to help inform and guide providers about the clinical care of members. The Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) recognizes the expertise and evidence-based knowledge that the guidelines represent and encourage the use of accepted standards of care to promote quality care and better health outcomes for Michiganders. The Consortium works to establish and update clinical practice guidelines for use by health care professionals and health plans. Guidelines are reviewed on a two-year cycle.

Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) are available to providers and may be communicated to practitioners through newsletters, direct mailings, our Provider Manual and focused meetings with HAP CareSource Health Partner Engagement Specialists.

These guidelines assist in improving member health outcomes. Review and approval of CPGs are completed by the Market’s Provider Advisory Committee (PAC), with final approval by the Enterprise PAC. The Quality Enterprise Committee (QEC) is notified of guideline approval.

CPG topics are chosen through analysis of our member population demographics and state/national health priorities. The guidelines focus on key chronic diseases, preventive health measures and screening recommendations for both medical and behavioral health concerns.

Health literate member clinical practice guidelines and other health care resources are available on the member website, covering a broad range of health and wellness topics. Information may also be shared via newsletters or upon member request.
