This week’s topic is how to pay your premium. We try to make it as easy as possible, offering different, convenient ways to pay. You can make a payment online, by phone or by mail.
How to Pay Your Premium
There are many convenient ways to pay your premium.
- Make an Express Payment: Go to www.CareSource.com/MPpay and enter your member information to be taken directly to the payment screen.
- Use Your My CareSource account: Online payments can be made one time, or you can set up automatic monthly recurring payments through your MyCareSource.com account. Recurring payments let you “set it and forget it!” You can always go back into your account to change or cancel the payments.
- Use Google Pay or Apple Pay: Use your My CareSource portal account or the Express Payment option to go to the payment portal. Click the icon for Google or Apple Pay to use the wallet on your smart phone to make your payment.
- Pay by phone: Call Member Services and tell our automated attendant that you would like to make a payment. Phone payments can be made with a credit card, debit card or checking account.
- Pay by mail: Detach the bottom portion of your invoice (remittance slip) and write in the amount of the check or money order. Include it and your check or money order in the included envelope and be sure that our address shows through the envelope window. Please include your member ID number on the memo portion of the check or money order.
Paying Your Premium On Time is Important
It is important to pay the total premium amount due by the due date! If we do not receive your premium payment by the due date on the invoice, then your account is considered past due, and your medical and pharmacy benefits may be at risk.
Thank you for choosing CareSource!
This week’s topic is where to get care. This is important because getting care from the right provider or facility can save you time and money. For your health care services to be covered by your plan, you must get them from an in-network provider, in most cases.
Primary Care Provider (PCP)
Your PCP is your “family doctor” and must be in our Marketplace network. Your PCP will work with you to guide your health care. They will treat you for most of your routine health care needs. A PCP visit gives you the most value for your health care dollar.
Going to the same provider each time you need care will help them get to know you and your needs. With regular visits, your PCP can help you stay healthy, manage chronic conditions, and identify any concerns before they become an issue. Your PCP may offer telehealth visits and after-hours care. Talk with your PCP’s office to find out more about your options for care.
Go to your My CareSource member portal account to tell us who you choose for a provider. You may also call Member Services to let us know. You don’t have to tell us your choice of PCP, and you can change your PCP whenever you choose. However, telling us who your PCP is ensures that you pay the lowest cost share for your visit, and that we can better coordinate your care with all providers involved in your treatment.
You can learn more about finding a PCP and why having one is so important on our website.
You Have Options for Where to get Care
If you ever aren’t sure where to go to get care, or need health care advice, call our CareSource24® Nurse Advice Line. The phone number is on the back of your CareSource member ID card. Nurses are available to speak with you any time, 24/7/365.
Primary Care Provider (PCP) Usually open during regular business hours. Appointment needed. Used for common illnesses and advice. You will get most of your routine and preventive care from your PCP. Your PCP may offer telehealth. Contact their office to find out.
Telehealth Talk with a provider by phone or computer 24/7 with Teladoc® for illnesses or minor injuries.
Teladoc offers mental health and substance use disorder counseling from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET. All at no cost to you. Call 1-800-TELADOC (835-2362) or visit Teladoc.com/CareSource.Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC) CBHCs provide a range of health and social services for people living with mental health and/or substance use problems. CBHCs may be the first place to go to get help for behavioral health concerns.
Convenience Usually open seven days with evening and weekend hours. These retail clinics are inside many local drug and grocery stores. Used for common illnesses like colds or flu, minor injuries and to get immunizations.
Urgent Care Usually open seven days a week with evening and weekend hours. Use when your provider is not available or your health issue cannot wait. Used to treat non-life threatening issues: common illness, x-rays, injuries.
Hospital Emergency Room Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Used for life-threatening issues or emergencies such as chest pain, head injuries, miscarriage or mental health crisis. Call 911 or go to the nearest ER.
*Convenience Care Clinics are not a covered benefit in West Virginia.
If you experience any of the following, don’t wait! Call 911 or get to the nearest emergency room:
- chest pain
- severe stomach pain
- coughing or vomiting blood
- severe burns
- deep cuts or bleeding that will not stop
- sudden blurred vision
- sudden weakness/loss of coordination or any condition which you believe is life-threatening.
If you are having suicidal or homicidal thoughts, or any mental health crisis, call 911 or 988, the new mental health crisis line for immediate help.
You can learn more about where to get care in your member handbook and on our website at https://www.caresource.com/members/tools-resources/where-to-get-care/.

Cost Savings Tips and Advocating for Your Care
The last weekly topic of our email series is how to get the most out of your health care coverage dollar. You pay for your health care, and you should get the best “bang for your buck!” The health care system can be hard to figure out sometimes. We are here to help clear a path for you.
You can find a list of common health care terms and what they mean on our website. This explains terms like copay and coinsurance, as well as more complicated terms like preauthorization. This is published by the Health Insurance Marketplace, so some terms may not apply to your coverage, like out-of-network co-payment. CareSource does not cover out-of-network services except in emergency or special situations outlined in your Evidence of Coverage.
Be Your Own Advocate
You are your own best advocate! When you visit your primary care provider (PCP), set your expectations with him or her. If you are there for an annual wellness exam that is considered preventive, set that expectation up-front when you call for the appointment, and again with your provider during the visit. Understand that labs may be separate from the visit itself and may have a different charge under your plan.
If you are prescribed medication, always ask if there is a generic alternative, or if the provider has written for a generic. If your provider knows that cost is important to you, he or she may keep that in mind when prescribing and ordering tests. It won’t affect your quality of care, but it can affect your wallet! You can see the CareSource Drug Formulary at CareSource.com/plans/marketplace/benefits-services/pharmacy/preferred-drug-list/.
If your provider sends you for imaging, a colonoscopy, or other outpatient test or procedure, ask if you can have it at an outpatient diagnostic center or outpatient ambulatory surgery center. These free-standing centers may be able to save you as much as 60% on the same care that you would get through a hospital outpatient testing or surgery center!
Get an Estimate
Just like with your car or home repairs, if you have time to plan, you can ask for an estimate from providers. It’s not as hard as it sounds. Ask your PCP if they have more than one facility or preference for surgeons or specialists for the procedure you need. Most will have at least a couple of options for you to choose from. Of those, if you call, they can likely give you an idea of the cost up-front if it is a routine procedure such as a colonoscopy, or even a simple surgery like a gall bladder removal or knee replacement.
Use Our Cost Navigator
Login to MyCareSource.com member portal and try out our Cost Estimator tool! You can get cost estimates for local providers for many common procedures and services. Click the Benefits tab and select the Cost Estimator. Follow the prompts and select the member to get started. Enter the type of treatment or service needed and your location. If available, you can compare in-network providers for location and cost. You will see estimates for the cost of the service, how much your plan will pay, and what your out-of-pocket costs may be. If a prior authorization is needed, it will be highlighted at the top of the screen. If you need help using the Estimator, please call Member Services.
